No—not every random Klondike deal has a winning solution. The answer also depends on the rules: Draw 1 and Draw 3 give different access to the stock, and stock-pass limits can change what is possible. Claims about “Solitaire” without specifying the variant can be misleading.

A difficult position is not proof

You might overlook a useful move, need a foundation card back on the tableau, or require another stock pass. Failing to finish a game does not establish that the initial deal was unwinnable. Nor does a computer reaching its search limit.

There is a difference between a position having no solution and a player not yet knowing one. Hidden cards add another distinction: a solver with full knowledge of the deal can find a route without making that route obvious to the player.

Three honest answers from a solver

Solitaire All Day keeps these outcomes separate:

  • Solved: a winning action sequence has been found and independently replay-verified.
  • Proven unsolvable: an exhaustive search has established there is no winning route from that position.
  • Unknown: a resource limit or cancellation ended the search before either answer was established.

Unknown must never be presented as “dead end.” Conservative detection can miss an impossible position; that is preferable to falsely telling you that a winnable one cannot be won.

Choose certainty about the starting deal

Guaranteed Winnable Solitaire uses stored certificates with complete verified solutions. Daily likewise selects only certified deals. That guarantee applies to the starting position, not every later decision. Undo and Restart remain useful, and assistance may need to search again after you leave a stored path.

No win-rate percentage is promised here. The practical choice is simple: use Random for an unrestricted shuffle or choose a certified starting deal when solvability matters to you.
